exciting.

my face is red because i was upside down for a few minutes while they tried to get the camera to work. i have to start working on dropping into that position from standing....sitting is easy...but just falling back from standing is scarier.
witt and i did doubles stuff for an hour today and then conditioned for a half hour.
i got groceries at trader joes which is so awesomely cheap and now I'm going to write this paper.

On satuday I'm going to training to volunteer reading to kids in the east village before school at their head-start-type program. being able to read in spanish will probably be a big help.

our ac sounds like it is about to take off.

kelly is already asleep and i am very jealous.
I have been reading genesis and some articles on gender identity. i'm so tired that I don't think that I'm really absorbing anything, so I am giving up and going to bed. I already have a quiz in sex, gender, bible even though I only came into the class two days ago..

i have some ugly bruises from flying trapeze. Whit and I are doing a doubles act together from now on which is really pretty sweet.

goodnight. see you tomorrow south florida.

I am now enrolled in SEX, GENDER, AND THE BIBLE. It looks really interesting so far. I got some interesting feedback on my project today in class...not totally but I was looking for, but helpful and made me think about a few things differently...

so this is a photo in my common room of my roommate kelly and I:

I got told yesterday at training that I could move up and train with actual new trapeze people classes!! no more just with other people training to work there! Basically I felt like I got a gold star in elementary school :). Hopefully I'll improve quickly and get to start working working soon....I am excited to see Derek and Allie and the family this weekend but also excited for the next weekend in nyc...I have some ideas for shooting and I want to go to Beacon's Closet in Brooklyn.

and don't worry Danielle, I'm still acting like a Dobin to the best of my abilities.

so I feel like I'm giving up...but I know that right now in my life, Chinese is far too much time...
so I am gonna stick around and audit the class so that I can try to pick some up and hopefully come back to it at a later date. I will be taking one of the following...

human development
personality development
sex gender and the bible
comparative politics

tomorrow is the last day of drop/add....wish i hadn't waited until tonight to come to this decision

they'll name a city after us

I've just discovered that I pick up wireless internet in my common room. this makes me so happy!!

Ok so Thursday after my chinese quiz (so difficult!!) I decided that I definetly want to stay in the class because I REALLY want to learn chinese, but I don't want it to pull down my GPA (which it probably would) so I am going to take it pass/fail. I can do this because it doesn't fulfill any requirement for me...its just credits.

I spent the rest of the day Thursday sort of as a waste...but it was raining!! I read for class a little and made more Chinese character flashcards and did some art in my new artist book. We saw the screening of that movie, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and got to have Q&A with the director afterwards as part of the NYU Directors Series. They are bringing Capote and the director next week!! I'll be home for the High Holy Days, but my roommates are going.
(To see the trailor for Guide just go here http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/aguidetorecognizingyoursaints/trailerb/ )

After that I ran to Roman's to shoot...but the stuido was closed due to the person running it being sick so we are reshooting tomorrow - I'm psyced to dress up and throw on different outfits and play with lights. I had two great subway experiences yesterday. The first was coming from the movie back to Canal...I was smiling and some guy around 30 asked me what I was so happy about. I think that I went into some explanation about how the world needed more smiles and that I just got broken up with but I was realizing how happy I was and had just seen my ex-boyfriend and not been sad about seeing him which made me happier even. He laughed and introduced himself and said it was nice to meet someone like that. Then I got off.
The other experience was from canal up to 23rd....some school group of 16 year old girls got on with their chapperones and were laughing and singing and forced some poor guy out of his seat. He was good looking and they were all talking to him and talking about his (admitedly very sweet) shoes. He told me he liked my shoes (my GIANT pink rainboots) and said that he recognized me from NYU. I said that was sort of creepy jokingly and he told me that he saw me in Weinstein Hall all the time...I said it was becuase I was dating someone there..he asked who and actually knew Harrison. It was just a nice conversation and it was fun to be able to laugh about recognizing people from around NYU. He and the school group both got off at Union Square and two of those girls told me that I should date him which I thought was really funny. They also told me that they were going to tell him the same thing whcih I thought was even funnier. It was one of those things where other people on the subway were laughing and agreeing or disagreeing - because really everyone is a matchmaker. It all just made me laugh a lot.

After that was Teddy's party (my friend who has an apartment) - it was good times and he has a sweet place. Teddy just got broken up with too, so we had a bonding moment and it was fun. Then Jackie, Mitch, etc and I took the 6 back downtown and chilled at our place with these kids we met from the floor below us.

This morning it was raining SO badly...and still is. ugh. Shaq and I went to a dining hall for breakfast with Fernando who is Uruguyan and got to hear about his boy drama. Now I'm about to make more chinese flash cards and try to do some reading for social history (200 page book due on monday!) and read the bible and write about how Jesus was or was not a socialist for socialist theory - any thoughts?

Then we are making cookies for manni's birthday tonight and going to dinner with Jackie's mom tonight and then Manni's party which should be tons of fun. Tomorrow I am hopefully shooting with Roman, hitting up the San Genero festival in Little Italy and maybe hanging out with Emo Jon that night. I haven't started working/volunteering full time which is good since I have so mmuch reading and work - especially for chinese!!!!

I also have 6 rolls of film from the summer which I need to process and eventually print....someday.

I am so super excited because dad found me a sweet old polaroid camera in Pensacola and got it for me!!

It is an SX70 and takes time-zero film if any of you should find any of that lying around...

Its fully manual and awesome and from the year that Diana was born!!
I can't wait to use it!

update on my life and weekend later...lets just say I had two great subway experiences that really made me love this city..

geez family, I must really love you if I am taking the time to write this now.

My day began with chinese class at 11 am where my teacher dropped the bomb on exactly how much was on this quiz that we have tomorrow....including the writing of 32 characters that we went over for the first time today. Matt (my friend in the class and I) looked at each other and cried inside a little.
Then I went to socialist theory where crazy bertrand ollman (my professor) discussed socialism. good stuff.
then lunch with some friends at the awesome nyu dining hall (I had a salad mom!!).

then i bought groceries like milk and cereal because SOMEONE has been eating mine...
then came home, studied chinese, talked to kelly, etc.
I went running. I ran around the financial area a little bit...then down to the west side highway and across to 12th street and back. a little over three miles followed by some crunches. i really liked running by the hudson...it is very pretty at night.

Just so you aren't worried mom...I made a three-egg white omelet for dinner with tomatoes, cheese, and olives and three vegetarian chicken fingers on the side. Lots of iron and protein.
My friend Matt (who lives on the 11th floor) came down and we just reviewed some chinese and now I'm getting ready to memorize the characters. exciting right!

Tomorrow afternoon I am trying to get to an advance screening of HOW TO RECOGNIZE YOUR SAINTS at nyu and then shooting for a lot of the night with my friend Roman who reserved a sweet studio at school of visual arts (which he attends).

Danielle gave me a good talk about BEING A DOBIN while she was here which I'm sure would have inspired all of you as much as it inspired me (thanks danielle) and...today I did!
You would have been proud Danielle (if she ever puts down Jamie/a building and reads this).

ok love you guys tons...now to the chinese.

yay for 11 am class tomorrow!!

Today began with 9:30 Chinese class and the unpleasant notification that we have a quiz on thursday that I am really very unprepared for. Study group on wednesday woohoo!
Chinese was followed by some printing in the digilab and lunch and playgrounding with my sister Danielle and her 1.5 year old Jamie who is visiting. After that I ran to my 2 pm photo class - got some interesting critiques and a very cool self-portrait assignment. I really like the people in my photo class this semester and Diane (my teacher) is really, really cool. That class, clocking in at around 4 hours, is really wayyyy too long though.

I went to dinner and hung out with Danielle and my cousin Michelle. Just got back now and planning on reviewing some chinese, reading some of my book, showering, and going to bed.

My suitemates are at some movie and kelly isn't here (I'm assuming shes at her boys room) so I am looooooonely!

old friend Roman is coming over now to cheer me up.
training at the trapeze school was rough...I am so out of shape and practice.
classes were all good today. I like busy days a lot.

this is for my mom and the rest of my family so that they can see what I do with my life here in new york.

I got back from jon and gabriel's wedding in philly a few hours ago and unpacked, hung out with katelyn, cleaned off my desk, fixed up my photos for class on tuesday, and made some stuff for tomorrow.

tomorrow is september 11th and the fifth anniversary of that september 11th. i am planning on going down to the wtc site to be there at 8:45 and 9:03 am, the times when the respective planes crashed into the towers. i'm going down that night after class and work (so around 10) with katelyn, but while I can go in the morning, I feel like I should.
then i'm gonna come back and eat breakfast and review chinese before my 11-12:15 class
then 12:30-1:14 socialist theory
then 2-5 history of photography
then work from 6:30-9ish
ouch. what a day.

I'm going to get some sleep now.
goodnight.

just so this isn't so boring:
these are two of my suitemates, jackie and shaq. this was taken on the 6train coming back from the met during welcome week

i like them lots.
